Quad Cities Autism Center
I. General Description
The Quad Cities Autism Center exists to provide education, guidance and resources to parents and children affected by Autism and to offer one to one instruction to develop and enhance the lives of our children by giving them new hope and a brighter future.
II. Responsibilities
A. Provide one-to-one instruction to children with various developmental disabilities based on the ABLLS
B. Be able to perform all necessary activities related to each child’s instructional needs;
i. Intensive Teaching Time will require:
1. Ensuring that the child remains at a table for approximately 30 minutes during their instruction;
2. In the event a child should display a maladaptive behavior, instructors must be able
to physically prompt the child through the behavior ;
3. Teach imitation skills by demonstrating various body movements.
4. Take ongoing data and record as required throughout the teaching time.
ii. Natural Environment Teaching will require the ability to:
1. Lift children weighing up to 50 pounds;
2. Physically block a child in the event they are attempting to hurt themselves or run off;
3. Engage in rigorous activities such as jumping, running, pushing/pulling children in swings
and/or wagons, moving between activities quickly often requiring getting up and down from
the floor repetitively;
4. Run and sustain behavioral procedures that may require physically blocking a child for an
unspecified amount of time;
5. Quickly react to actions a child may engage in that could jeopardize their safety;
6. Take ongoing data and record as required throughout the teaching time
iii. All one-to-one instruction requires instructors to be with their client at all times during the session. This could include assisting them in the bathroom, changing a diaper, transporting them to other classrooms within the multi-level building, etc.
C. Spend 30 minutes prior to each session in preparation for that session and 30 minutes after each session to record data and complete graphs.
D. Track and record session data in the required format after each session
E. Daily ensure that all toys and instructional stimuli are returned to their assigned locations
F. Perform housekeeping duties as assigned
G. Work with the Director and other Instructors in a team approach to serve clients
H. Communicate effectively with clients, parents and other staff
I. Attend staff meetings as scheduled
J. Work collaboratively with community partners, parents and students
III. Qualifications
· Bachelor’s Degree in education or related field desired but not necessary
· Experience working with young children
· Organizational skills and the ability to work in an ever changing environment
· Energetic personality and the ability to perform physical instructor duties, as listed above, as required
within the scope of the job
· Demonstrate the ability to perform physical instructor duties as a component of the initial interview
· Valid driver’s license and available transportation
· Satisfactory results for drug and background check
